Digital optical twins promise shorter, more resource-efficient and optimized processes for the development of new diagnostic methods, therapies, procedures and devices in many medical and technical fields. To create digital optical twins, their optical characteristics, especially the scattering and absorption properties, must be spectrally resolved. The project aims to combine the metrological experience of opsira GmbH with the theoretical know-how of the ILM for the development of an innovative goniophotometer. For the first time, this measuring device will enable the determination of all necessary optical properties for the description of light distribution on and in scattering media precisely, quickly and automatically. Application examples of the optical twins that can be realized in this way range from the production of dental restorations or epitheses to the color management of plastics, full-color 3D printing and autonomous driving.
